Unlocking Success: how consistency fuels your journey to personal and professional triumphs.

Cuticle oil changed my perspective of life. I know that sounds pretty crazy.  That cuticle oil would have a large impact in my life, but it’s true.  It was an aha moment for me.

I bought the roll-on cuticle oil as an impulse purchase off of my facebook feed.  It didn’t take even 30 seconds for Sophia Ritchie Grange to convince me I needed it.

So a few days later it arrived and I started applying it nightly before bed.  After just a couple of days, I started seeing improvements.  This product was amazing!  It convinced me to continue on with my new nightly habit.

So why am I telling you about cuticle oil?

Because of what it represents:  the power of Consistency.

When you do something every day, it has an impact in your life.  And over time, it has a large impact; not just at home, but at work and in every other facet in your life!  This is the premise of the popular book, Atomic Habits by James Clear.  In it, he suggests we focus on improving ourselves by just 1% each day.  That small incremental change has a huge impact over time.

And the thing is, this can be with anything you choose.  But be aware, that this works the same with negative habits just as it does with positive habits.

Cuticle oil, flossing your teeth, doing pushups or even improving your mindset and mental health….whatever you choose to do will have an impact.  My cuticle oil takes about 20 seconds to apply.  Flossing isn’t much more.  Reading positive affirmations takes about 1-2 minutes.  Push-ups are what, 3 minutes?  Very little time is needed.

And yet we still don’t do it.

Why?  Well, maybe we don’t believe it will work or get us to where we really want to be in life.  Or we don’t think we can commit to doing something every single day.  Or maybe we just don’t want to.

In the case of shifting your mindset, research has shown that it takes very little effort to make improvements. In fact, by just reading positive affirmations regularly, you can expect the following improvements on your mindset and well-being:

  1. Improved Self-Esteem: Research conducted by Wood, Perunovic, and Lee in 2009 found that individuals who practiced self-affirmation experienced higher levels of self-esteem and psychological well-being compared to those who did not.
  2. Reduced Stress: A study by Creswell et al. (2005) showed that daily affirmations led to decreased stress levels among participants. Affirmations helped individuals cope better with stressful situations and maintain a more positive outlook.
  3. Enhanced Performance: Another research study published in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology by Sherman et al. (2009) demonstrated that affirmations can enhance academic performance. Students who engaged in self-affirmation exercises showed improvements in their grades and overall academic achievement.
  4. Increased Motivation: According to research by Armitage & Conner (2001), positive affirmations can increase motivation and promote goal-directed behavior. By affirming their capabilities and strengths, individuals are more likely to pursue their goals with persistence and determination.
  5. Boosted Resilience: Studies by Legault & Inzlicht (2013) suggest that affirmations can enhance resilience in the face of setbacks. By reinforcing positive beliefs about oneself, individuals are better equipped to bounce back from challenges and maintain a resilient mindset.

But do you want the transformation?  The amazing change in your life?  Think about the outcomes you will experience if you do commit to doing this 2 minute routine daily?

Is it possible?

Ask yourself: What is the one thing you want to change or improve in your life?

Then ask, what is the one thing you can do daily that will get you there?  Just one thing.

Will you do it?

Think about what it will feel like to reach that goal.  How you will look.  How you will feel about yourself, knowing you did it.  How will it impact your focus, your job, your relationships.  Because you know that when you improve one area of your life, it has positive effects across all areas of your life.

Will you do it?

Many of us won’t.  Oh we try.  And after about a week or so, we fall out of the habit.  We don’t see the drastic improvement and get disinterested.  Our need for immediate gratification starts to wear us down.

So how do you get around that?

I love James Clear’s solution of creating habits using the “stacking” method.  Simply stated, you add on your small daily habit to something you already do daily, like brushing your teeth.  So you do your pushups right after brushing….no exceptions.  After a few weeks, it is automatic.

At the end of the day, doing something consistently is the key to your success.  It doesn’t matter what it is, it just needs to be done regularly.

Living a life of excellence is worth thinking about.  We are all here for a specified amount of time….why not live that time in an extraordinary way?  The great news is, you have the choice.  You hold the power to choose and create what you want to experience; at home, at work, and in life.  So what will that be?

Whatever it is, enjoy your journey.

Positively,
