I can just feel my inner child bursting to come out and play.
It’s officially the holiday season! Woo Hoo!!
For those of you who know me personally, you know that I become an elf at this time of year. I spend days and days decorating the inside of my home. (I think we are up to 5 trees this year). And I even decorate the bathroom!
Yes, I am an official Christmas Geek. And I wear that name proud.
Several years ago I crossed over the Super Christmas Geek line and started watching Hallmark Christmas movies.
I had protested them for a few years and said I would never…..
What did Mom always say to us? Never say never!
That first year I think I watched 2 or 3 movies a week for the entire Christmas season!
I was addicted.
Over time, I’ve backed it off a bit….I’m down to 1 or maybe 2 per week.
They are no mystery and follow a formula that shows up in every single movie. They are so predictable that my husband likes to play a game where he tries to figure out the entire story plot within the first 2 minutes of the movie.
And he nails it.
But I don’t care. I’m not watching it for a twist or surprise ending. I’m watching it for the wholesome feel-good spirit of the holiday season.
The snow (which I hate by the way…..but it somehow is magical on screen). The small town. (Also, yuck for me. I’m a city girl. But it is so adorable in the movie!). The single/widowed/divorced person (ok, I can relate here) and the romantic love story (yea!). Well, it’s the perfect formula for a 90 minute window of escaping the real world and feeling some Christmas cheer.
So if you haven’t crossed the Christmas Geek line yet, I highly recommend coming over!
But maybe holiday movies aren’t your thing (gasp!). There are many other things to enjoy and bring fun and laughter into this month.
Ice skating.
Igloo dining.
Hot chocolate with lots of marshmallows.
A visit to see Santa. (And you do not need small children to do this!)
A drive to view Christmas lights in your neighborhood. (One of my favorite things from my childhood).
A night of wine tasting with friends.
A Christmas market.
Shopping in a fun atmosphere. (A mall that is truly festive brings out a smile even with the crowds.)
I know we have all turned to online shopping for this season. And I’m right with you. It’s crazy convenient.
But don’t let that keep you away from the fun.
Get out there and enjoy the spirit of this season. Whether you celebrate Christmas or not….it doesn’t matter.
Just be in the Fun. Let the magic and the spirit of this season fill you up.
As Albert Einstein once said, ‘There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.’
Choose miracles. Once you start looking, you will see they are absolutely everywhere.
Happy Holidays! Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah!
Let’s enjoy every moment.
