This morning felt harder than usual.
I didn’t sleep well…something I wish was unusual, but is not.
My energy felt off.
And if I’m honest… I had to push myself just to sit down and start writing this.
I knew what would help.
I knew I’d feel better once I got moving.
But there’s that moment sometimes…
Where knowing and doing don’t quite line up.
And as I sat here, trying to get started, I realized something:
This season of life asks something different of us.
When You Enter Your Second Chapter
There comes a point—usually somewhere in midlife—where you look at your work differently.
You’ve already put in the years.
You’ve built the career.
You’ve done what was expected… or what made sense at the time.
And then something shifts.
You start asking different questions:
Do I want to keep doing this?
For how long?
At what cost?
What do I actually want my days to feel like?
Because now…
Time feels more real.
Retirement isn’t some abstract idea anymore—it’s visible.
And at the same time, the world feels uncertain.
The economy feels unpredictable.
So the question becomes: What am I building now?
Job. Career. Or a Calling?
In this next chapter, we tend to fall into one of three paths:
A job –
Something that pays the bills. It serves a purpose—but it doesn’t necessarily light you up.
A career –
Something you’ve invested in. Built over time. It brings structure, identity, and often stability.
A calling –
Something deeper.
Something that feels aligned with who you are now—not who you were 20 years ago.
And here’s what makes this stage so challenging:
You don’t choose from a blank slate.
You choose from your experience, your responsibilities, your financial reality…
and your desire for something more.
The Tension We Don’t Talk About
We want fulfillment.
We want meaning.
But we also want security.
And sometimes it feels like we have to choose between them.
But what if that’s not true?
What if this chapter isn’t about making a dramatic leap…
But about making intentional shifts?
Small, honest decisions about:
- where your energy goes
- what you say yes to
- what you’re no longer willing to tolerate
What This Season Is Really Asking
Maybe this chapter isn’t about reinventing everything overnight.
Maybe it’s about getting clear on this:
What matters most to me now?
What kind of life am I actually trying to build?
And does the way I’m spending my days support that?
Because your next decade…is not built in a moment of clarity.
It’s built in your daily choices.
Even this morning.
Even when you’re tired.
Even when you don’t feel like starting.
A Simple Place to Begin
If you’re in this in-between space right now…
You don’t need a full plan.
You just need one honest step.
One conversation.
One boundary.
One decision that moves you closer to alignment.
And if your mornings have been feeling anything like mine did today—slow, heavy, hard to start—I created something simple to help you reset.
It’s called The Reset.
A short, practical way to come back to yourself before the day pulls you in every direction.
You can download it here.
Your Invitation
This is exactly the work we’re doing inside Design Your Next Decade.
Not from pressure.
Not from fear.
But from clarity.
From intention.
From the belief that it’s not too late to build something that feels both meaningful and sustainable.
The women inside Beyond by Emerge Positive tell me they’re finally experiencing what they’ve been wanting for a long time.
Clarity about where they’re going.
Momentum in their lives again.
And a renewed sense of confidence.
And again and again, I hear this:
It feels like a gift they’re finally giving themselves.
If you’re ready to explore what this next chapter could look like for you.
Stop waiting. Your future self is begging you to begin.
You Can Emerge Positive!
Positively,
Deanne
