As children:
We imagined freely.
We pretended.
We believed anything was possible.
As adults:
We call it “impractical.”
We call it “irresponsible.”
We call it “a waste of time.”
But dreaming is anything but childish.
It’s creative intelligence.
It’s possibility thinking.
“Imagination is more important than knowledge.” — Albert Einstein
Why Dreaming Isn’t Childish — It’s Strategic
What we want to create begins in our mind first.
Neuroscience shows that vividly imagined experiences activate many of the same neural pathways as real ones. In fact, studies have found that people who mentally rehearse a skill — even something as simple as flexing a muscle or practicing an instrument — can measurably strengthen neural connections without physically moving. Your brain responds to repetition, whether the experience is happening outside of you or vividly inside of you.
So when you allow yourself to truly dream — and return to that vision again and again — you aren’t being unrealistic.
You’re training your mind for what’s possible.
That’s powerful.
If your brain changes through imagined reps… what happens when you repeatedly imagine your future?
You Cannot Create What You Have Not Allowed Yourself to Envision
As adults, we often:
React to life.
Survive life.
Manage life.
But we rarely design our life.
Dreaming Is the Beginning of Belief
I’ve been working with the Dreamlining exercise for almost 20 years. When I first started, I felt like I had so much time. Nothing seemed urgent.
Now I feel the urgency.
I dream. I visualize. I feel the joy.
But dreaming alone isn’t enough. Without action, nothing manifests.
For years, I was stuck on the action part. Doubt. Fear of failure. Worry about rejection. Questioning whether I was capable.
Then in my late 30s, I slowly started taking risks. I moved to Atlanta. I got serious about my future. I paid off all of my debt. I focused on my health. Eventually, I met my now husband and moved to San Diego.
Every part of my life started aligning.
Not because it was effortless — but because I finally believed it was possible.
Easy.
Abundant.
Fun.
Joyful.
Dreaming was the beginning.
Belief followed.
Action came next.
Dreaming is the beginning of belief
And belief precedes action.
I know so many of us feel stuck, tired, and uninspired. Life can slowly drain us when we’re just trying to stay afloat or when we’ve quietly settled for less than we truly want.
But when we dream, something shifts.
Researcher Charles R. Snyder, known for his work on Hope Theory, found that hope is directly connected to goal setting and pathway thinking — people who can envision an outcome are far more likely to take meaningful action toward it.
Dreaming isn’t passive.
It’s neurological fuel.
This is exactly why dreaming and visualization are such powerful tools inside the work we do in Beyond by Emerge Positive™ — because before you take action, you have to believe.
In March, we’ll be walking through the Dreamlining process together — designing the next 10 years with intention. If that feels aligned for you, I’d love to have you in the room.
My Invitation to You
Tonight, give yourself 10 minutes to dream without editing.
No logistics.
No doubt.
No “that’s unrealistic.”
Think like your 10-year-old self.
And go big.
And if you decide you’re ready to not just dream — but design — we’re doing that work together inside Beyond by Emerge Positive™. You don’t have to build your next decade alone.
Life doesn’t wait.
And neither should your dreams.
Ten minutes tonight could begin something extraordinary.
You Can Emerge Positive!
Positively,
Deanne
