Wake Up to the Life You’re Missing

Have you ever shown up to work and forgot the drive in?  Or driven by a tree or house that is beautiful and realized you are just seeing it for the first time, even though you drive by it daily?

Our day to day existence can seem quite boring.  The same routine, day in and day out.  If we let ourselves, we can start sleepwalking through it.

Which means we are missing out on our life.  We are missing the details.

I don’t think any of us intend to do this.  But just take a look around…..there are sleepwalkers everywhere.  Maybe even yourself.

No judgment….I’ve been there too.

When we stop intentionally living, we move into automatic living.  The routine is our momentum that keeps us in motion.  But we lose our excitement, our direction, our purpose, our joy…or as the French say, our ‘joie de vivre’.  And instead, our life is being directed by the current, with no direction.

This is when we start feeling depressed, lost, or stuck.

My spiritual morning routine is what keeps me present and focused.  It forces me to see the abundance, the joy, the love, and all of the good things surrounding me.  Even when I don’t feel it….especially when I don’t feel it.

We are whole human beings…which means we can’t just work on our career and income while ignoring our health, relationships, spirituality and expect to be happy.

Body.  Mind.  Soul.

For the past 10 years, I have started every day reading Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach.  The daily entry is short…it takes 1-2 minutes to read, but it always gets my mind in a good space.  I see it as my mental primer for the day.

From there, I journal, meditate, and read a chapter in my current book that is helping me with business, personal growth, or my health.

This sequence helps center me.  It also aligns me to something bigger than myself.  And it helps bring me clarity in my day.  To see that whatever struggle I’m dealing with isn’t as big as it seems.  And that allows me to lower my stress and open the space for me to create solutions.

As a result, life becomes easier.

In today’s entry, Sarah wrote:

“Everyday epiphanies jar us into a profound awareness of how much we have, how much we have escaped, and how much there is to be grateful for.”

Ah, there’s that word again…Grateful.

Bringing gratitude into your daily life is a sure fire way to get out of automatic living.  Because you have to see to experience gratitude.  You can’t just float through life with blinders on and expect gratitude to enter.  You must see.

Which brings me to perception.  How you see the world is routed by your beliefs.  It’s your truth.  It allows you to see abundance or lack.  To experience the magic of life’s perfect timing or worry that it is never going to happen.  To be a victim or the drive to take personal responsibility.

And what we believe, we create.  In our life, we work (unconsciously) to prove our beliefs true.  Take one good look at your life and you will see this proof.

So going back to the daily routine….you are creating more of what you believe is true.  You are attracting things, people, and experiences that match your beliefs.  And here’s the rub….

You’re doing that whether you are conscious of it or not.

Each of us have a choice:

  1. We consciously create a life we enjoy.
  2. We sleepwalk through life and get what we get.

Which one are you doing?

If you are unhappy, know you have the ability to change things.  You hold the power to choose something different.  Something that will create a different outcome.

So whether you want to change careers, get out of your relationship, make more money, create more free time for yourself, make new friends or finally lose weight; know that you can.

You really can.

The question is, are you willing to change?

Louise Hay, who is one of my mentors, said that we must state out loud:  “I am willing to change”.  This simple act will open the door for you. Try it.

Say it as many times as possible.  Say it to yourself throughout your day.  And be aware of what feelings come up as you are saying it.

Do you feel Scared? Worried? Excited? Fearful? Doubtful? Happy?

All change, no matter what it is, begins with your decision to be willing to do it.

So will you?

Here’s an easy way to begin:

  1. Say to yourself throughout your day, “I am willing to change”.
  2. Set 10 minutes aside each morning before you begin your day to center yourself.  Read something uplifting, mediate, sit and breathe, do a few yoga poses…whatever works for you.
  3. Focus on your day.  What will you prioritize? Visualize the outcome.  See yourself as productive and content and moving closer to your goal.
  4. Name or write down 3 things you are grateful for today.

These simple things will create positive change in your life.  If you do them.

So will you?

You can Emerge Positive.

Positively,

deanne
