It’s Not What You Believe. It’s What You Practice.

The Gap Between Knowing and Living

I caught myself this week.

Knowing exactly what would help me… and not doing it.

And it reminded me of something:

Transformation doesn’t come from what you believe… it comes from what you practice.

I went down a bit of a rabbit hole recently reading about early Christianity—how people lived, what they believed, how they conducted their lives day to day.

And what struck me wasn’t theology.
It wasn’t doctrine.

It was this:

They didn’t just believe something…
They lived it.

And I found myself asking a question I couldn’t ignore:

Where in my life am I saying I believe something… but not actually living it?

Because if I’m being honest…

There are areas where I know what works.

I know what grounds me.
I know what centers me.
I know what moves me forward.

And yet… I don’t always choose it.

This month was a perfect example.

The time change hit me hard.
My energy felt off.
My mornings felt heavier than usual.

And everything in me wanted to default—to skip the routine, to just get through the day.

But I reminded myself: This is where it matters.

Not when it’s easy.
Not when I feel great.

But right here.

So I chose my reset.

Not perfectly.
Not for an hour.

But enough to shift something.

And that’s when it clicked:

It’s not what I believe that creates change or transformation…it’s what I practice daily.

Belief Alone Doesn’t Create Change

We all have beliefs.

We believe:

  • We should take care of ourselves
  • We should set boundaries
  • We should prioritize what matters

But belief alone doesn’t create change.

Practice does.

Small, repeated, intentional actions.

That’s where transformation lives.

Why So Many Women in Midlife Feel Stuck

And I see this so often—especially with women in midlife.

You’re not lacking awareness.

You know what you want.
You know what needs to shift.

But there’s a gap between knowing and living.

And that gap?

That’s where frustration lives.
That’s where feeling stuck comes from.

Small Daily Practice Is Where Transformation Begins

What if the goal wasn’t to learn more…
but to live more of what you already know?

Not perfectly or all at once. But one small, intentional choice at a time.

A Simple Way to Reset

This is exactly why I created The Reset.

Not as another thing to learn.
But as a simple way to practice.

A way to come back to yourself—daily.
To ground your thoughts.
To choose your direction.

If your mornings have been feeling rushed, reactive, or scattered…download The Reset here. It’s free and is a good starting point.

I talked more about this idea—and what it actually looks like to close that gap in this You Can Emerge Positive podcast.

If you’ve ever felt like you know what to do… but aren’t doing it consistently, this one will resonate.

So today, I’ll leave you with this:

Where in your life do you already know the answer… but aren’t living it yet?

Don’t try to change everything.

Just choose one small thing. And practice it today.

Positively,

Deanne
