I Didn’t Feel Like Showing Up This Week (And Why That Matters in Midlife)

It’s Friday morning… and I still haven’t written this newsletter.  I always write on Wednesdays, but it just wasn’t there.

I’ve opened my laptop a few times this week.
I thought about it.
And closed it again.

And if I’m being honest… I just didn’t feel like it.

Which is a little ironic, isn’t it?

Because this is exactly the kind of moment I talk about all the time

Getting Back into Your Routine

I just got back from vacation.

And it was good.
Relaxing.
A break from routine… from structure… from expectations.

There’s something about being away that makes everything feel lighter.  And that view….it’s great, right?  I could sit and stare at the water all day….and I did!

But coming back?

That’s where it gets interesting.

Because even though nothing is “wrong”…there’s a heaviness in the transition.

Getting back into rhythm.
Back into responsibility.
Back into showing up.

And this week… I felt it.

Here’s what I know — and what I had to remind myself of:

You don’t always get to feel like it.

You don’t always feel motivated.
Inspired.
Clear.
Ready.

But that doesn’t mean you stop.

Because the truth is…
The moment you don’t feel like showing up…

Is the moment it matters most.

Isn’t that what Mel Robbins is telling us all the time regarding exercise?  You just 5-4-3-2-1 and get to it.  Don’t let the moment hold you back.

Action Creates Motivation

We tend to believe that motivation comes first.

That we’ll take action once we feel better.

But it actually works the other way around.

Action creates momentum.
Momentum creates clarity.
Clarity builds confidence.

And confidence?

That comes from proving to yourself… that you follow through.

Even when you don’t feel like it.

What Are You Avoiding Right Now?

So let me ask you—

What are you avoiding right now?

What’s the thing you keep putting off… waiting to feel more ready, more energized, more certain?

What would it look like to take one small step today?

Not perfect.
Not complete.

Just… started.  Knowing you are beginning.

Inch by Inch is a Cinch

This is something I talk about often on the podcast — how the smallest shifts in what we do (not just what we believe) are what actually move our lives forward.

Here’s an episode that may help if you’re feeling unmotivated too: Simplify to Breathe Again | Small Tweaks That Change Your Whole Day

Here’s Your Reset

If you’ve been feeling a little off, scattered, or stuck getting back into your routine…

I created something simple for you.

It’s called The Reset — a 10-minute morning practice to help you feel grounded, clear, and back in control of your day.

And it’s free. You can download The Reset here

Sometimes it’s not about doing more…It’s about coming back to yourself.

And if you’re ready to take a bigger step and start getting clarity on where you’re going next…

That’s exactly what we do inside Beyond by Emerge Positive™.

I didn’t feel like writing this today.

But I did it anyway. And you know what?  It wasn’t so bad.

And maybe… that’s the reminder we both needed.

Positively,

Deanne
