Designing Your Next Decade Starts at Home

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about our homes.

Maybe it’s because it’s springtime.

The season where we naturally start opening windows, cleaning closets, donating things we no longer use, and refreshing our spaces.

Or maybe it’s because I’m seriously addicted to Zillow 🙂

But I also think it’s deeper than that.

I recently read something that said:

Your home is a reflection of your life.

And honestly?

That stayed with me.

What Does Your Home Say About Your Life?

Because when you really look around your home… what does it say?

Does it feel peaceful?

Overwhelming?

Cluttered?

Intentional?

Outdated?

Comforting?

Heavy?

Alive?

Our homes often tell the story of where we are emotionally, mentally, and energetically — even when we don’t realize it.

And I think this becomes especially important in midlife.

Because many women spend years creating homes for everyone else.

For the kids.

For the family.

For the schedule.

For survival.

But somewhere along the way, we stop asking:

What do I want my life to feel like now?

Lately, I’ve been thinking about this too.

Not just about organizing drawers or cleaning closets…

but about the feeling of a space.

How differently I feel when a room feels calm.

How much lighter I feel when clutter is removed.

How certain spaces energize me… while others feel tied to an older version of myself.

Spring Cleaning as a Midlife Reset

And maybe that’s what spring cleaning is really about.

Not perfection.

Not having a Pinterest-worthy house.

Not buying all new furniture.

Maybe it’s about creating space.

Space to breathe.

Space to think clearly.

Space to become the next version of yourself.

Your Environment Matters More Than You Think

Because the truth is: our environment affects us more than we think.

The piles we keep putting off.

The rooms we avoid.

The things we hold onto “just in case.”

The unfinished projects.

The chaos.

The excess.

Sometimes they aren’t just physical clutter.

Sometimes they’re emotional clutter too.

And if you’re in a season of redesigning your life…

your career…

your health…

your relationships…

or your next decade…

your environment matters.

Start Small: Create One Space That Feels Good

You don’t need to overhaul your entire home overnight.

But maybe this week, you clear one drawer.

Rearrange one room.

Donate what no longer fits your life.

Buy fresh flowers.

Create one small corner that feels peaceful and inspiring to you.

As I was thinking about all of this, I was reminded of a recent episode of the You Can Emerge Positive podcast called The Spring Reset Declutter Plan.

Because sometimes the clutter in our homes mirrors the pace of our lives.
We’re rushing.
Managing.
Holding everything together.

And somewhere along the way, we forget how important it is to create spaces for ourselves and those we live with.
